Staoisha (Bunnahabhain) ex-Garrison Brothers Bourbon cask
Nose: Crunch barley sugar, peat drops and damp peat smoke. Glacier mint freshness and eucalyptus develop alongside damp leaves and seaside rockpools.
Palate: Freshly crushed peated barley leads – lots of mulchy grain with apples, peas, winter stoves, smouldering peat and touch of bitter char. Fruity sweetness develops with stewed pears joining the fresh and poached, as well as some unripe. Candied peel and dried apricot notes appear.
Finish: A burst of sweet mint leads to singed apples and tar.
This release combines the smoky character of Staoisha, a peated expression from the renowned Bunnahabhain Distillery, with the distinctive character of ex-Garrison Brothers bourbon casks. Here’s the story behind this special bottling:
Staoisha is a name that has been gaining traction among whisky enthusiasts over the last few years. While Bunnahabhain is typically known for its unpeated single malts, their new brand, Staoisha represents their venture into peated territory. Produced at the iconic distillery on Islay, Staoisha combines the maritime character of Bunnahabhain with the smoky, earthy qualities that Islay malts are celebrated for.
Though a relatively new expression, Staoisha has already carved out a strong reputation. The earliest bottles are just over a decade old, with many independent bottlers showcasing younger expressions as young as six years. For those seeking a peated Islay experience that balances smokiness with complexity, Staoisha is a rising star. We believe our bottling soon to be released on the Still in Cask website for pre order offers exceptional value for money.
The Garrison Brothers Connection
The second half of this release’s story takes us across the Atlantic to the heart of Texas, where Garrison Brothers Distillery produces some of the most respected bourbon in the United States. Known for their innovative use of smaller, 100-litre casks, Garrison Brothers crafts bourbons that are rich, bold, and deeply flavorful.
